If you find a pigeon...

The following sites have some excellent ideas on how to care for your found pigeon:

http://www.comanco.com/found.htm
http://www.ifpigeon.com/pigeons.html

If your found pigeon has a metal or plastic band on its leg, you can contact the organization that sells these bands. They may be able to put you in touch with the owner.

Pigeons bands generally read like this example:

AA 02 ABC 12345

AA in this example, is the organization that issues the band.
02 is the year it was born

ABC is the club that the breeder belongs to
12345 is the bird's individual number

If the first letters on the band are:

AU contact the American Racing Pigeon Union at: http://www.pigeon.org/lostbirdinfo.htm

CU, contact http://www.crpu.org/cu1.htm

NPA, contact http://www.npausa.com/

NBRC, contact their secretary at 903-791-8005, or E-mail them at Rhende4719@aol.com Robbie Henderson

IPB, contact foyspigeon@juno.com , or their store at (612) 537-4242.

IF, contact http://www.americanhoming.org/

If you see a pigeon that you believe needs help, contact your local humane society.

If the bird has no band, it is a wild pigeon. If it isn't healthy or is impaired in its ability to fly, contact your local humane society or bird rescue organization. If it is healthy, release it near a park or place where you see other wild pigeons.

Or join the rest of us pigeon lovers -- build a loft, get a few more pigeons and find out how enjoyable this hobby can be!
